Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Dept. (SHVFD) is located in a small town by the same name on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The Company was established in 1897 after a huge fire devastated much of the downtown area. So, in 2017 we celebrated One Hundred and Twenty years of serving our community! Snow Hill is a town of only about 2500 people, but our Fire/EMS area is one of the largest in the State including many more hundreds of families. We respond to an average of a hundred and seventy-five fire calls and over eleven hundred ambulance calls a year. Like many areas on the Shore, we are growing and so that will just continually rise.
The Company can have sixty-five active members on the roster and ten Cadets. We moved into a brand-new facility in 2002 and are already pushing on its walls. You can see pictures on this site. We also provide a full-time ALS / EMS service to our community, fielding three ambulances with ten full-time employees. Volunteers also still provide much needed coverage in this respect as well.
SHVFD also has an active membership in regard to Retired and Life members and a busy Ladies Auxiliary. We have recently added an E-One Typhoon 78' Ladder truck. and a utility high water rescue vehicle. Bringing the total to fifteen working vehicles in our Company to protect our community. You can see our equipment here. We are thankful to have a supportive community and attained some grant money which has helped and add to that the normal Company fund-raiser which enables a relatively small department to grow.
