There are two MVA's in this section. The first one was extremely
dangerous to responders. There is a GREAT temptation to respond to someone in need, especially one we can see so close by.
A local civilian stopped to help and ran right up to the vehicle before we arrived. There were phone and cable lines down, across the road which
are not by themselves dangerous. BUT there was a major power line only ten inches above the car. Electricity can easily jump that far if the
wires were bare and electrified. The non-dangerous wires also could have been lethal if bare and crossed during the impact. That person could have
been killed or wounded and become another problem for rescuers. Remember, safety FIRST, so that the person in trouble can be helped without making things worse!
The 2nd. call was an overturned dump truck, both accidents were on 6/28/10. Only one pt. in each. Both turned out to be minor injuries.
On June 27th we were called to respond to a car fire
back on one of our local logging roads. It seems the driver had fled the scene. Therefore, there were no injuries on location.
The car had been so burnt out, being quite a distance away from town and was quickly brought under control on our arrival.
We were toned out for house fire "fully involved" on the
first report the night of 5/7/2010, a friday. We found the home to be just that. A small dog had awoken the single occupant,
allowing her to escape the smoke and flames, possibly saving her life! Much of the home was saved as well. Also allow time for many photos.
These are photos from our latest two drills, the last one on 4/21/10. As you can see, we still
have awful problems with our night photography.
Due to Technical difficulties We present these photos from 2009 until present as miscellanous
collections, including fires & accidents. Give it a little time to load as it has more than 30 photos to view.
Sept.4th we were called out to Rt. 113 and Timmons Rd. For a two car MVA with injury.
One driver rear-ended a stopped car waiting to turn. There was one extracation and two pt. transports to PRMC. As soon as this happened
there was also a local medical call, using all three of our ambulances at once. Another close call on 113, as both pts. were not seriously injured.
In the last ten days of July we resonded to three more accidents
on 113. Two at Public Landing Rd. and one at the Rt.12 crossover. All were two vehicle accidents, some with serious injuries.
We Responded on July 7th to Rt. 113 North of Bay Street for an
accident between a Van and a Tractor-Trailer. The van crossed the line and the head-on collision caused one unfortunate fatality, and
one pt. refusal. Our prayers are always with these families who lose loved ones.
Recently we joined with Girdletree, Stockton & Pocomoke for
a control burn of a multi-story Chicken house. Good Practice since we often help each other out.
On June 13, 2009 we were called to the Worcester County Jail
for a car fire. We arrived to find a single vehicle fully involved in the parking lot. There was no one
inside, and no injuries reported. The fire was quickly controlled and extinguished. As you can tell, the auto was a total
loss.
We responded to a motorcycle accident on Furnace Town Rd.
and Greenbriar Swamp. Motorcyle missed the curve and struck a guywire and tree. There was one pt. who survived only long
enough to get to the hospital.
Here are pics from two accidents the last week of May; one, in broad daylight, two cars involved again, on 113!
Pts. transported and the other, at night, a car vs. Tanker on Rt. 12, no injuries, but this was a close one!
On 5/20/09 We were toned out for a two vehicle accident on Rts. 12 and Public Landing Road.
This has always been a trouble spot just like two roads south at Rts. 12 & 13. There were
three pts. transported in two Ambulances. None in serious condition.... this time!
Check out the sign in the last pic... Also; if you come upon an acc. PLEASE, pay attention to the Fire Police directing
traffic, it's for your safety and OURS!
On 5/12/09 We responded to a single vehicle accident on Whiton Road. There was only a single
occupant. The Pt. did not need to be rescued from the car after landing off the road
in the field, but did require transport to the hospital. This is another good example of how wearing a seatbelt
can save your life!
On 5/8/09 one of the motors to the grain mixers caught fire inside the building.
Pocomoke's Tower responded, and access could also be had inside. The fire was under control in a very short time.
There were no casualties.
There are two vehicle accidents on different nights back in the Pocomoke
Forest. All the occupants were all right. The last one was Jan. 31st of 09.
